"Danse de La Grave" print

Illustration pour Halloween 2020 en hommage au quartier de La Grave à Toulouse.
Imprimé sur une machine Heidelberg de 1850 par Poppy Press dans le quartier de La Grave en octobre 2020.
Le sujet principal est le dôme de l'hôpital de La Grave, qui est un bâtiment iconique de Toulouse surplombant la Garonne; à l'époque, l'hôpital traitait les épidémies de peste. J'ai voulu illustrer ce moment macabre de l'Histoire par une joyeuse danse de squelettes.
L'atelier Poppy Press qui s'est occupé de l'impression, se trouve à proximité du Dôme. C'est Katalin, la propriétaire, qui a eu l'idée de cette illustration et qui m'a proposé ce projet.

L'impression au marquage à chaud est un procédé qui consiste à appliquer une feuille métallisée sur le papier à l’aide d’une matrice chauffée, et d’une pression suffisante pour en sceller une fine couche.

This Halloween illustration is inspired by the district of "La Grave" in Toulouse.
The main subject is the dome de La Grave, which is a well known historical building in Toulouse, overhanging La Grave hospital on the edge of La Garonne; in the old days, the hospital treated the plague epidemic. We wanted to illustrate this macabre moment of History with a happy skeleton danse.
Poppy Press workshop is standing nearby the Dome and the owner Katalin, who wanted to create a print for Halloween, call me for the illustration.
We're very happy with the result, hope you'll enjoy it!

How does hot foil printing works?
The design is etched onto a metal die, heated, and pressed onto a layer of foil between the die and the product, using a foiling machine. The heated metal die causes the foil to bond to the surface of the product.
